Scintillation Detectors
XDS Oxford Scintillation Detectors come in two sizes and various configurations that are tailored to meet your individual needs, whether that is an individual detector or an array for a Multi Crystal analyser.
The Scintillation Detector is made up of 4 components; a scintillation detector head, pre-amplifier electronics (CP), signal cable and Pulse Processing electronics (CX1 or C400).
Scintillation Detector System
In the detector head is a scintillation crystal, which absorbs X-rays and produces visible photons. The crystal is optically coupled to a photomultiplier tube which converts the light into an electronic signal; the amplitude of which is dependent on the incident X-ray intensity. The signal is then pre-amplified by the CP15-N (NaI crystal) or CP15-L (LaBr3 crystal) before being transferred to the C400 for pulse processing.

Crystal Types
XDS Oxford offer Sodium Iodide and Lanthanum Bromide scintillation crystals in multiple widths. Your individual choice is a balance between count rate and energy resolution.
The highest performing crystal is the Lanthanum Bromide with a decay time of 16 ns. It can register faster photon rates and output a greater light signal per photon than any other crystal type.
CP15-L & CP15-N Fast Pulse Pre-Amplifier
The CP15 models are intended to amplify and condition charge pulses generated by scintillation detectors based on photomultipliers.
The CP15-N has gain and filtering suited to sodium iodide (NaI(Ti)) scintillation detectors. The burst of fast charge pulses from a single detection event is converted to a single smooth output pulse, well-suited to discrimination or pulse height analysis.
The CP15-L has gain and filtering suited to lanthanum bromide (LaBr3) scintillation detectors. These detectors are considerably faster than sodium iodide detectors and are preferred for higher count rates. The CP15-L has a corresponding faster response, using filtering that provides a single output pulse per detection event but without compromising pulse pair resolution.

C400 4-Channel Pulse Processing Unit
