ENGINEERING SCIENCE FOR A BRIGHTER TOMORROW.

Autumn looms and it was a bright (but chilly) day as XDS Oxford loads Monochromators and Cryocoolers for multiple projects at the upgraded Swiss Light Source (SLS 2.0). With an emittance factor increasing by up to 40x and a brilliance factor increasing by 1000x, these new instruments have been designed to provide the high levels of stability required to optimise beamline performance.
Each project is the culmination of great collaborative work between the Engineers and Scientists at PSI Paul Scherrer Institut and our equally excellent teams of Engineers, Technicians, Purchasing and Logistics at XDS Oxford.
These systems will be installed our Technicians in parallel to the ongoing machine upgrade, with pilot users expected in 2025.

The XDS Oxford IC Spec Ion Chamber has been specially designed for high precision X-ray intensity measurements. A ‘gridded’ option is also available offering the potential for increased bandwidth by inhibiting ions from creating induced charge on the electrodes.

Every shipment to our customers marks the end of an era of design, building and testing. We look forwards to the installation of these Monochromators before they are handed over to the Swiss Light Source and put to work, assisting scientists in ground-breaking research.

The XDS Oxford XV Cryocooler has been designed to deliver a highly stable liquid nitrogen flow to remove heat from a remote load and is particularly suited to cooling monochromator and multilayer crystals.
Performance can be optimised via the Control Rack, or via an EPICS interface, to ensure optimal thermal and mechanical stability is achieved.

Following the installation of the Goniometer and Detector Positioners for MX3 at ANSTO, XDS Oxford are supplying similar units for the MX2 beamline. These are being prepared to be shipped in October.
These Positioners will enhance the experimental suite for the macromolecular science in Australia.
