Our range of Quadrant Beam Position Monitors are based around an array of four large area photodiodes which capture solid angle fluorescence from scintillating foils, providing a beam position accuracy of less than 2 microns with the use of different foils allows the QBPM to be used over a range of energies.
This concept is licensed from Argonne National Laboratory and base of design work carried out by R.W. Alkire, G Rosenbaum and G. Evans.
UHV QBPM
The Ultra High Vacuum QBPM (UHV QBPM) is designed for use with monochromatic X-rays. This system uses Stepper Motors for vertical and horizontal movement, and for the foil changer.
This system provides beam positioning accuracy of less than 5 microns and, when paired with our I404 4-channel current amplifier, it also provides beam intensity measurements.
A stepper motor driven foil changer can house two foils allowing different foils to be used for the photon emission optimisation of a varying beam intensity.
The UHV QBPM comes in two standard conflat sizes DN100CF150 6" and DN160CF200 8" and are set to a “Straddled” position.

HV QBPM
The High Vacuum QBPM (HV QBPM) is designed for monochromatic X-rays and uses a Pneumatic insertion system to allow the scintillation foil to be moved in and out of the beam as required.
Coupling this device with one of our 4-channel current amplifiers provides a beam positional accuracy of less than 5 microns.
This system comes in 3 standard configurations; KF40, KF50 and BPC.
Adapters are available to convert from KF40 to BPC (Male or Female).

HV DBPM
The Dual Beam Position Monitor (DBPM) provides vertical positioning for Bending Magnet Beamlines and uses an array of diodes mounted above and below the beam to capture solid angle fluorescence from scintillating foil. This system uses an Pneumatic insertion system to allow the scintillation foil to be moved in and out of the beam as required.
The detector comes with KF40 connectors as standard. Adapters are available to convert from KF40 to BPC (male and female).

UHV DBPM
The Ultra High Dual Beam Position Monitor provides vertical positioning for Bending Magnet Beamlines. The UHV DBPM uses an array of diodes mounted above and below the beam to capture solid angle fluorescence from scintillating foil.
The detector head is built into a DN100CF150 6" conflat in a Straddled position, with the foil holder position adjustable via a Stepper Motor.
The position of the array within the conflat can be moved vertically via a Stepper Motor.

XDS Oxford offer a range of foil materials and thicknesses suitable for use with the diode array beam position monitors.
Please refer to the table below as a guide for selecting the appropriate foils. Speak to us if you require a foil not listed.
When selecting foils we recommend adding .5 keV to the Kα1 emissions to ensure a detectable signal.
