The Blade BPM is for use in white beam applications, and measures the photo-current extracted from two pairs of vertical electrodes to determine beam position.

It is capable of providing a continuous read-out of beam position without operator intervention.

The Blade BPM utilises the fringes of the beam, employing two pairs of blades from which the photocurrent is measured when the blades are on the edge of the photon beam.

Position data is obtained by amplifying the current on each blade and taking the ratio of the difference in observed current to the sum of the currents. The currents measured at each blade are of the order of several μA.

To reduce the cross talk between the blades these are positively biased (with 50-300 V).
